Reporter-Herald Staff WriterChildren found a dead man in a north Loveland creek Sunday afternoon.
Police aren’t sure what happened or how the man died yet. The children found the body near World Beverage, 3655 N. Garfield Ave., while they were walking nearby. Police got the first call at 1:50 p.m. Loveland Police Department Sgt. Ben Hurr said it was not known if the man was shot.
The children found the body near Dry Creek, which runs underneath North Garfield Avenue.
Loveland firefighters placed a ladder in the ravine to help investigators reach the bottom safely.
Police cars crowded the back of the liquor store’s lot, and a yellow tape marked off a large swath of land around the creek to prevent people from wandering onto a possible crime scene.
“It’s a large area down there,” Hurr said. “We’re not sure what happened.”
Hurr said evidence could be up or down the stream.
Hurr said there were visible signs of trauma to the body of the adult man, but it wasn’t clear whether the trauma was related to the cause of death.
The body has been turned over to the Larimer County Coroner’s Office.
